How Commission, Taxes, and Payout Work
Airbnb
Stay details
- 10 nights × $100 = $1,000 lodging (paid by guest)
- Cleaning fee = $150 (paid by guest)
- Tax rate = 14.45% (paid by guest)
- Airbnb Platform fee = 15.5% of lodging + cleaning
- Capehost commission = 18% of (lodging - platform fee)
Step 1. Guest payment
The guest pays Airbnb:
- Lodging $1,000
- Cleaning $150
- Tax (14.45% of lodging) = $144.50
- Total guest payment = $1,294.50
The guest pays the tax directly to Airbnb. Airbnb then remits that to the state, so neither you nor Capehost handle those funds.
Step 2. Airbnb deductions
Airbnb keeps 15.5% of the total host payout (lodging + cleaning):
15.5% × $1,150 = $178.25
Airbnb sends $971.75 ($1,150 − $178.25) to Capehost.
Step 3. Cleaning
Capehost pays $150 directly to their cleaning crew.
Remaining amount before Capehost commission:
$971.75 − $150 = $821.75
Step 4. Commission
Capehost keeps 18% of the remaining amount for management.
Owner receives the other 82%.
- Capehost commission = 18% × $821.75 = $147.90
- Owner payout = 82% × $821.75 = $673.85
